The Bore Hole Ministry
JOHN CHAPTER 4:1-42
MISSION AND MAJOR GOAL:
REACHING ALL PERSONS WHO COME TO DRAW WATER FROM BOREHOLES LAKE SIDES AND SPRINGS.
VISION: COMMUNITY REACHED AND EVANGELISED
INTRODUCTION
The borehole ministry is a reach out ministry to all people who come to draw water from springs, lakes and rivers. Many people come for water every day for home use, unlike in the towns where water is installed in houses. This gives an opportunity for missioners to share the gospel of Christ to the people.
Jesus gives us the best example in John 4: 1-42 by meeting the Samaritan woman at the well as she comes to draw the water from the well of Jacob for her physical needs. She little thought of meeting at Jacob’s well, with Christ the fountain of life, and well of living water; She came for natural water, having no notion of water in the spiritual sense, or of carrying back with her the water of life, even a well of it, spring up to everlasting life. The well and the water suggest the thirst of the soul and the waters of life. The gospel must reach the people where they are other than inviting them where you have organized it. This makes us reach a bigger crowd.
THE RESEARCH
Busia south has five sub-counties with each village having at least one or two boreholes, making more than 1000 borehole in the southern area. There are at least 150 people per day who come to each borehole for water. Fifty jerrycans are lined up each jerrycan takes four
minutes to fill. Each person who comes to line up faces a 20-30 minute wait before he/she fetches water.
QUESTION:
Can the missioners use the above to give an opportunity to these people who come for water to hear the word of Lord (taking the gospel where the people are)?
THE PROJECT
Reaching the borehole souls needs committed missioners ready to work morning to evening for three days. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Each Unit (borehole) is manned by four missioners.
Two missioners pump water for the clients, as two are doing the ministry. They later change over. In the afternoon those who pumped do ministry while those that ministered do the pumping.
Ministers should have the following equipment:-
Four plastic chairs (three for clients and one for the minister).
A tent for shelter with a Bible, tracts, spiritual books and the chairs (All clients sit in the tent for the ministry).
A missioner who is a respected member of the community should be one of the four members to introduce the visiting missioners.
DISCIPLESHIP CENTRE:
Each centre shall have 10 anointed ministers whose work shall be to disciple any person sent to the centre by the unit camp. Ten unit camps (boreholes) make up a centre. The centre shall not be in a particular church in the community until after discipling the client.
Later the client shall be sent to the church participating in the mission.
The discipleship centre can be a tent or a social centre (non-partisan ground) where ministers shall freely reach the clients without raising eyebrows.
Power packed ministry continues in the centre (workshops).
Discipleship centres should have a good number of chairs so that everybody can sit.
TIMING
The time span is arranged so that three missions can be done in one year.
We could meet tens, hundreds, thousands, millions if we came together mobilized funds and marched to the boreholes. How many springs, boreholes, wells etc are there in your sub-county, county, district, country, East Africa, Africa and the whole world? I pray for others to catch my vision and move with me in the fulfilling of it (Habakkuk 2:1-2).
PROJECT TRIAL
The project was recently piloted at the borehole outside the Radiant Love Office in Masafu. At the end of one day 6 local residents accepted Christ— people previously unreached!
So we are confident that this will be a very worthwhile mission.
We are in the process of mobilizing funds to begin reaching people for Christ.
We have planned to visit 100 boreholes in December of this year. Compassion International leaders are sending to me all their born again sponsored students that we may reach all boreholes in the area of their projects. We pray that it will be successful.
