LUBANGO ST PAUL’S CHURCH of UGANDA LWANGOSIA ARCHDEACONARY BUSOGA DIOCESE Memorandum on Development Programme. INTRODUCTION. LOCATION. Lubango Parish is a parish in the Lwangosia  Archdeaconary in Busoga Diocese. Politically. Lubango is located in Muluniba Sub County in Namayingo district. It is surrounded by the great Lake Victoria. Lubango Parish has 12 daughter churches – namely St Pauls Lubango St Peters Mulwande St Stephens Bumeru St James Bumeru St John Buchinio St Mark Mwenia Mulombi Lugaga Bulundira Butebeyi Yebe Island Biisa Island BACKGROUND Lubango parish has a linage of problems but among the many the key ones are as follows. There is no health unit. The nearest health centre is in utumba Trading Centre, a distance of 10 Kms. We have lost many  people, mainly pregnant women and Cholera patients, There is no safe water. People use lake water for domestic use – with the threat of Bilhazia. Many of our relatives have lost their lives because of the wild crocodiles which use them as their food! Lubango parish faces very long droughts resulting I poor harvests. Because of ow earnings many projects have been on a stand still. E.g. our main church building hasnot been completed and even the vicarage house in in the same state and the parish priest has no residence at HQS. We have a big portion of land which needs development. There is need for the following:-  A secondary school (much needed because the children are only getting primary education since the only secondary schools are many Kms away and there are bad roads and  no public transport.)  A Technical school   (for vocational training)  A Health Centre.  If all the above are put in place our people will have a chance of educating their young children to become self reliant and help this parish to develop by the year 2020...

On previous missions we have encountered other ministries to orphans and HIV/AIDS families that are worth supporting. In Namanyago (Kamuli district) the church has set up an Aids Intervention project and Orphan school. They offer education to help people provide the best home care, arrange testing and medication where needed, seek to remove fear and stigma and provide education for orphans who would not otherwise afford the fees or be accepted into normal schools.The school has to meet in the church as they cannot afford the rent for the small house they were using when we first met them. They want to buy some land to build a school but at present this is out of their reach and land prices keep rising. Update June 2013. Pastor Robert Kayima writes'Through your prayers God is sustaining the ALPHA IINFANT ORPHANAGE SCHOOL. We are doing well and good. For this term we have 104 orphans and vulnerable children(OVC) who are being supported with education and food and a feew scholastic materials. God has also opened up ways of reaching  prisoners with the  Gospel from the time of the SoM visit. God has enabled us to carry out HIV counselling , testing of blood (HCT) and as of now we have identified 11 prisoners who have HIV virus. We are working together with the officers in charge to access care and treatment for them until they go back home. Then we will need to follow them up in order for them to live a positive life. We still face the challenge of the lack of land for the orphanage school and a good building for them. Please pray tat we may move ahead with this.'   Kaliro Family Church and Centre In Kaliro there is a whole church made up of HIV/AIDS families. They are widely scattered throughout the Kaliro district, and the pastor himself is so poor that he has to borrow a bicycle to visit his church members! JOHN CHAPTER 4:1-42MISSION AND MAJOR GOAL: REACHING ALL PERSONS WHO COME TO DRAW WATER FROM BOREHOLES LAKE SIDES AND SPRINGS.VISION: COMMUNITY REACHED AND EVANGELISED INTRODUCTION The borehole ministry is a reach out ministry to all people who come to draw water from springs, lakes and rivers. Many people come for water every day for home use, unlike in the towns where water is installed in houses. This gives an opportunity for missioners to share the gospel of Christ to the people. Jesus gives us the best example in John 4: 1-42 by meeting the Samaritan woman at the well as she comes to draw the water from the well of Jacob for her physical needs. She little thought of meeting at Jacob’s well, with Christ the fountain of life, and well of living water; She came for natural water, having no notion of water in the spiritual sense, or of carrying back with her the water of life, even a well of it, spring up to everlasting life. The well and the water suggest the thirst of the soul and the waters of life. The gospel must reach the people where they are other than inviting them where you have organized it. This makes us reach a bigger crowd. THE RESEARCH Busia south has five sub-counties with each village having at least one or two boreholes, making more than 1000 borehole in the southern area. There are at least 150 people per day who come to each borehole for water. Fifty jerrycans are lined up each jerrycan takes four minutes to fill. Each person who comes to line up faces a 20-30 minute wait before he/she fetches water. QUESTION: Can the missioners use the above to give an opportunity to these people who come for water to hear the word of Lord (taking the gospel where the people are)? THE PROJECT Reaching the borehole souls needs committed missioners ready to work morning to evening for three days.
